Before & After

Before

Meet Ronnie. Her before and after tells the story. For six years, this computer executive’s teeth decayed. It seemed a medical mystery until an Air Force dentist reviewed the case, and recommended she go to a prosthodontist who could solve the mystery and bring back her smile. "I wish I knew what a prosthodontist was earlier,” said Ronnie. “Patients need you."

After

Ronnie’s prosthodontist diagnosed that her teeth were decaying because of too many sugar-laden drinks, sucking on lemons and citrus foods, and brushing too vigorously immediately after eating. Ronnie’s prosthodontist provided a solution for her bite, jaw and gum to work in harmony. The outcome? Ronnie can speak, chew and smile — beautifully.

This patient complained of large, white, un-esthetic crowns (caps) on her upper teeth. She had difficulty chewing due to the loss of many of her back teeth. She also reported a history of dental decay and disliked the dark areas near her gums.

After

The patient’s upper teeth could not be saved due to dental decay and all of the upper teeth were removed. 6 dental implants were placed into her upper jaw and were used to support a fixed dental bridge. This transformed her smile and provided her with a full set of upper teeth.

This young woman was very unhappy with her appearance because her front teeth protruded so badly. Her prosthodontist assembled a team of dental specialists to give her a pleasing smile. A prosthodontist coordinates and leads the right team to give the patient the best looking and functioning result.

After

After wearing braces, having dental surgery to correct the position of her jaws and having porcelain crowns (caps) placed on her front teeth, this young woman was thrilled with her beautiful smile and a new confident approach to life.

Before

This patient had a long history of grinding his teeth, which led to severe wear of his dentition. He was interested in restoring all of his teeth to enhance esthetics and to improve his ability to chew. It was also important to prevent his grinding habit from destroying his teeth again.

After

Dental implants, porcelain crowns (caps), and fixed porcelain bridges were used to restore this patient's entire dentition. With carefull design and planning, we were able to transform his smile and enhance his chewing ability. A thin, plastic mouth guard was made to protect his teeth from grinding during night.

Before

Over the years, this patient lost some teeth and had many back teeth with fillings, but the thing that bothered him the most was the gap between his front teeth. After a complete examination and long conversations to determine his desires, the prosthodontist determined a plan to restore his smile and function.

After

Using porcelain crowns (caps) and fixed porcelain bridges on most of his teeth, this patient ended up with an attractive smile and improved chewing function. Careful, precise planning by a dental specialist, by a prosthodontist, gave this patient his smile back.

Before

Like many denture wearers, this gentleman did not realize that dentures need to be re-made periodically to compensate for shrinkage of the gums/ridges over time. After wearing the same set of dentures for several years, this patient noticed that he was no longer showing his teeth when he smiled in family photos, that his face was beginning to look shrunken and his dentures did not fit well.  Fortunately, he consulted a prosthodontist, a specialist in making dentures.

After

Using tried and true methods, the prosthodontist carefully evaluated this patient’s mouth, made impressions of his gums, made careful measurements of his face, selected artificial teeth that were the right shape and color for the patient, set the teeth in a wax temporary denture to evaluate the appearance and bite before making the final denture.  When the denture was finished, it was carefully “fine-tuned” to reduce sore spots and ensure that the bite was correct.

BA1a

Before

This patient disliked the color of her teeth and the spaces between her upper front teeth. She also thought that her teeth were too short, and her gums were too prominent when she smiled. After a complete examination including study models, x-rays and long conversations to determine this patient’s ultimate desires, the prosthodontist determined a plan to improve the appearance of her smile.

BA1b

After

After coordinating treatment with another dental specialist to remove some gum tissue to make the teeth appear longer, this patient’s prosthodontist used porcelain crowns (caps) to improve the color and shape of the teeth while closing the spaces.  The patient achieved her goal of a pleasing and natural-looking smile.

BA1a

Before

This patient never developed his upper lateral incisors (the teeth on each side of the front teeth) and wished to have these teeth replaced. This is a relatively common problem, especially in families who have congenitally missing or malformed teeth.  Since these patients are often young, it is difficult to find a way to replace the teeth and create a lasting smile.

BA1b

After

Today’s technology offers one of the most conservative ways to replace missing teeth without compromising the other teeth. After consulting a prosthodontist, this patient decided to replace his lateral incisors with dental implants and crowns.  This treatment allows restoration of the missing teeth without preparing or involving the teeth on either side of the space.

BA1a

Before

This patient wanted to improve the appearance of her lower front teeth. Although the teeth were relatively healthy without any decay or fillings, the teeth show some wear and discoloration with some spaces between the teeth. The patient consulted a prosthodontist about the best way to treat her teeth and enhance her smile.

After

Porcelain/dental veneers provide a reliable method to change the color and shape of relatively healthy teeth. Veneers require a minor preparation of the teeth, but are much more conservative than crowns (caps). Porcelain veneers are etched and bonded to the enamel of the teeth, making the restorations durable and improving this patient’s smile.

Before

This patient was unhappy with the shape, color, and spacing of the porcelain crowns (caps) placed on her two front teeth. She was interested in replacing these two crowns to create a more esthetic appearance.

After

After removal of the crowns, two new porcelain crowns were placed on her front teeth. By changing the size of the teeth and closing the space between the teeth, a significant esthetic improvement was achieved.
